How to diagnose Parkinson’s Disease?

Diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease is mainly based on the patient’s medical history as well as neurological signs and symptoms. In recent years, neurologists may also arrange patients to undergo F18-FDOPA PET/MR brain examination to assist in the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

With the use of radiotracer F-18 FDOPA, PET images can show the distribution of “dopamine” in the brain, while MRI images demonstrate detailed structural information of the brain. These images enable doctors to diagnose and differentiate Parkinson’s disease from Parkinsonism disorders.
